Mark Waid wrote 30 issues of this series, which is littered with science. These powerful teens from throughout the galaxy come together with some amazing powers. Powers that have heavy roots in science and stretching science into the fantastical (of course, otherwise we wouldn't have humans with superpowers). In addition to servicing the science behind the powers for many of the characters, Waid dove into some heavy questions that border on the philosophical and scientific line which will be explored here. Taking aside all this science goodness, the series had political intrigue and lots of interpersonal drama within the Legion, which happens when you get a large group of teens together.
These are the segments that will be done regarding the Legionaries and major events within the series.

1.) COSMIC BOY
Cosmic Boy (Cos) is the leader of the Legion and has been manipulating magnetic fields before Magneto was a stroke of Stan Lee's pin and possibly the first hero to wield such powers.
In the scene to your left Cos is breaking through a force-field to get into Brainiac 5's lab. This seemingly simple act beg many questions:
1.) What is a force field?
2.) How can it be manipulated by Cos?
3.) What might happen to cause someone to have such a magnifying power?
Answers:
1.) A force field is a field that can apply a force through seemingly no physical contact. Forces that can do this are gravity, which we know little concerning what it actually is, and magnets, which are produced by unpaired electrons.
2.) Knowing Cos can manipulate magnetic fields then we must deduce that Braniac 5's force field used magnetism. This was a poor choice on his part knowing Cos's abilities. Cos simply needs to create a magnetic field of greater magnitude with the same sign or pole (opposite poles of a magnet attract and two of the same pole repel).
3.) Humans do have very small magnetic fields produced by the current used by flowing electrons by our neurons. Electricity and magnetism are intimately liked since both deal with electrons in different ways. However, the magnetism we produce is very small useless as a power. The static cling out get in winter is a build up of electrons from excessive friction with carpet and other such objects. Once you touch a piece of metal these electrons will discharge and create a spark, which moves the electrons from you to the metal resulting in the loss of static cling. To have Cosmic Boy's powers we would have to amplify the electricity used in our bodies to a major degree and be able to control the amount of charge to control how the amount of magnitude the field will have. Cosmic Boy is an alien, so his bodies chemistry and make up are likely starkly different from our own even though he looks the same.
2.) Lightning Lad
Garth Ranzz
Lighting Lad is one of the 3 founders of the Legion the others being his wife (at least at one point), Saturn Girl and Cosmic Boy. This adventure has him being his usual off the cuff and fun loving person. However, a little family drama creeps in as his brother, Lighting Lord, has a dark side causes some major trouble for the team. Lightning sure is in the family! But, how?
1.) How can the Ranzz family have such a power?
2.) How can he control the power?
Answers:
1.) Well, Ranzz is an alien. However, assuming his body is very similar to the homosapians I know, we are conductive creatures. We can build up charge, a small charge, which is evident by static. Garth's body is able to build up massive charges. This means his body has to be able to store it and cut off the supply, other wise he would be releasing charge everywhere. To hold the charge his body must have something that acts like a battery! It must be a pretty large part of his body and the largest organ is the skin. I'll guess skin. Our body is sensitive to charge, mainly do to our nervous system, which functions as a result of electrical impulses.
2.) Get get electrons to go in a direction, that's gotta mean that they are flowing to a more positive area. If the target were more negative, the electrons have a negative charge, so they would repel. He should still have trouble hitting the target he desires because of this.
3.) Sun Boy... UP NEXT
Sun Boy has the great power of transmutation. However, there's a limitation to his powers. The transmutation only works for 60 seconds unless the atoms react with other atoms. Essentially, he's a weaker Firestorm with no flaming head (not even red hair!).
1.) How does transmutation work?
2.) How can it only last a minute?
3.) What does it mean about Sun Boy's body that he's able to do this?
