Marvel's Magneto #3
Bunn (w) Walta (a)
Magneto has his own title and he's on the loose. The malcontent mutant has a very strong power of controlling magnetism.
Here, Magneto, is searching for someone or some thing in a building and decides to use his powers to send a magnetic wave through the buildings to map his way through the building.
Questions:
1.) What are normal air vent material normally made from?
2.) Can that material be magnetized?
3.) Can magnetic waves work like sonar?
Answers:
1.) Common ventilation systems are made of galvanized mild steel. Mild steel is steel, which is a mixture of iron and carbon, that has less than 0.15% carbon. (1)
The galvanization process is to coat it in zinc oxide, which provides a tough outer surface. (2)
2.) Yes, it can be! Most metals can due to their unpaired electrons in their outer shell. (3)
3.) No, magnetism does not work like sonar. Sonar is sound waves which bounce back when they hot solid objects to allow for a projection of the surface. (4)
Magnetism is created by the motion of unpaired electrons. This motion produces a field that can pull or push on other objects that are magnetic, pending on their electron orientation. (5)
I give Bunn and Walta credit, Magneto could do this. The ventilation, made of steel and can be magnetized. Now, He couldn’t sure the his Magnetic pulse like sonar, they are two very different things. However, Magneto could send the magnetic pulse out and be able to sense a disturbance in the force, which could service as mapping, since he is able to control magnetism and all.
